Poole Bay Freight Ltd - Case Study

Case Study

Poole Bay Freight Ltd is celebrating its tenth birthday this year and the haulage company currently has a turnover of £3m. Joint owners Mark Opax and Tony Halfhide see the business very much as a 'partnership' and team effort with Tony Squires running the warehousing while they concentrate on the fleet. Today the haulage company runs 20 vehicles from 7.5 tonners to artics with 30,000 sq ft of modern high bay warehousing which is mainly used for paper reel storage for a major printer.

Haulage Exchange is their first choice for finding and putting loads on a freight exchange. "We used to be in Teleroute but could not get on with it, "says Tony Halfhide. With Haulage Exchange we are able to find  good back loads for our vehicles and 'we have made many new contacts', for our traffic.

So far Poole Bay Freight has a 100% record of finding hauliers for the loads and back loads they put on the site. Tony and Mark believe this combination of quality operators and good back load opportunities is helping them consolidate their haulage company's business. Poole Bay Freight have been Palletforce members from the outset operating two night trunks and three though the day. There are no plans for more expansion at the present time. With a major fleet renewal on the way and concentration on keeping the warehousing side of the haulage business expanding, the two Tony's and Mark will have their hands full enough.
