Haulage yard plans deferred

Date: 31 July 2008

Plans to open a haulage yard in Wimblington in Cambridgeshire have been deferred for a second time, it has been reported.

According to the Wisbech Standard, local residents are fighting the development, which would be built on a stretch of Manea Road which is deemed dangerous as it is located on a blind corner and has a poor accident history.

Planning officers at Fenland District Council received a speed survey report for Manea Road, Wimblington, hours before the proposal was submitted by local businessman Tony Knowles.

The committee ruled that it needed more time to conduct its report.

One protester told the newspaper: "This is starting to get ridiculous, but we will be back and we will continue to fight the plans."

The project has been recommended for rejection due to highway safety concerns.

It was previously reported that trucks conducting haulage wok may be subject to weight restrictions on the A368 in a bid to improve safety.
