Haulage clients 'want green trucks'

Date: 30 July 2008

Haulage clients expect their loads to be delivered in a green manner but at no extra cost to themselves, it as been claimed.

According to a survey by Transport Intelligence (TI), businesses expect transport companies to bear the cost of making their trucks more environmentally-friendly, reports RoadTransport.com .

The survey highlighted that 70 per cent of haulage customers feel environmental compliance from transport providers was either reasonable or very important.

However, 54 per cent neglected to consider the extra costs involved in making this a reality.

"While clients are making all the right noises about being green, when it comes to picking up the tab, they're washing their hands of it," John Manners-Bell, TI's chief executive officer told the news provider.

In related news, some leading food and drink companies, including Birdseye and Cadbury, have signed up to a scheme which sees them signing up to the Food and Drink Federation's (FDF) Environmental Checklist and Clause for Greener Food Transport, reports RoadTransport.com.
