Truck drivers unite against A368 weight restriction Popular

Date: 30 July 2008

Truck drivers who conduct haulage work are uniting against north Somerset council's proposals to introduce a weight restriction on areas of the A368.

According to a report in local newspaper the Weston and Somerset Mercury, the local authority is also seeking to introduce a permit scheme, which would see any hauliers attempting to deliver loads within four kilometres of the restrictions needing permission.

Speaking at a Town Hall meeting earlier this week, Road Haulage Association board member Richard Fry said that there will be many people who find themselves unable to get a permit.

"The ban will have a massive impact on our businesses and the environment, as we will be forced to take 40-mile detours," he added.

Mr Fry also claimed that the police oppose the scheme on safety grounds.

The Essex Chronicle recently reported that the local council is planning to ban trucks from overtaking on the A12.

One way to stop these beurocratic idiots is for every trucker to strictly observe the 40mph limit on single carriageway roads. the resulting delays to other road users will soon concentrate their minds.
