Food firms sign up to environmental initiative
Date: 18 July 2008
A host of leading food and drink companies have signed up to a scheme which sees their environmental standards for transport practices being embedded.
RoadTransport.com reports that some 40 big-name firms are included in the initiative, including Birds Eye, Britvic, Cadbury and Kellog's.
The news provider adds that all of these enterprises now adhere to the Food and Drink Federation's (FDF) Environmental Checklist and Clause for Greener Food Transport, which will see them following a ten-point checklist to ensure the eco-friendliness of their trucks.
Included in the checklist are points such as reducing empty running, participating in best practice driver training and using vehicle tracking technology.
Speaking to the news provider, Iain Ferguson, the FDFs president, said: "The companies who have signed-up are the first of what we hope will be many more."
Previously it was reported by the Daily Telegraph that a number of large food and drink firms including Coca Cola and Tesco are planning to share their haulage work to cut down on the amount of fuel used.
