Truck drivers criticise government's environmental policies
Date: 16 July 2008
Commentators have criticised the government for not providing a clear lead on environmental issues, at a recent haulage debate.
According to a RoadTransport report, Malcolm Wilson, managing director UK logistics at Norbert Dentressangle, told the annual SCALA logistics debate that transport companies have developed their own environmental agendas with little help from the government.
He added that his company has taken measures to cut the amount of waste it sends to landfill and harvesting rainwater.
Also speaking at the conference, Trevor Ashworth, director of food and retail logistics, Co-operative Group, said that the government's strategy is "confused", citing its biofuel policy as an example of where it has changed its mind about the measures it wishes to take, adds the news provider.
It was previously reported that the European commission has passed a proposal which will see truck drivers conducting haulage work being subsidised for any environmentally-friendly changes they make to their vehicles.
