Awards celebrate women in transport industry

Date: 15 May 2008

The shortlist for the MAN Truck and Bus UK everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards has been announced.

Women who take part in haulage work and transport industry loads have been nominated in five categories.

The awards are designed to recognise the contribution women make to the freight industry and encourage more females to take up professions within the transport sector.

Speaking to RoadTransport.com, Maxine Benson, co-founder and director of everywoman, said: "These awards are proving that you don't have to be a man to succeed in transport and logistics.

"The proportion of women in the workforce has increased significantly over the last few decades, and inevitably the range of careers they are pursuing is diversifying."

Lucinda Ward, marketing and research director at Skills for Logistics, which is associated with the awards, added that the event provides a great opportunity to meet female role models from within the sector.

The categories for the awards include Newcomer of the Year, Company of the Year and Isuzu Customer Service Award.
