Satnav aimed at couriers launched

Date: 15 May 2008

A new satnav system aimed at courier drivers has been launched.

Navevo's NAVTEQ Transport ProNav GPS system features dynamic routing and navigation optimisation based on a vehicles' specific dimensions to help avoid incidents such as driving down too narrow roads or brides with weight restrictions.

It can also be utilised for freight trucks and highlights areas where it is illegal for such vehicles to be and automatically reroute a journey if needed.

A statement from the manufacturers claims that the system is "ideal" for people providing a courier service in London as it locates red route and standard loading bays for delivery drivers and provides data concerning exception times and maximum loading period.

"We have developed ProNav to ensure its advanced capability and ability to overcome many of the problems professional drivers face when using traditional satnav systems," says David Guiver, Navevo's business development director:

This follows news of a new digital map from Transport for London which courier drivers can download onto their satnav to help them see the speed limits in various parts of the capital.
