New satnav system could make life easier for couriers

Date: 08 May 2008

A new satellite navigation system could prove helpful to couriers as it uses real photographs of roads to guide drivers.

The NDrive claims to be the first satellite navigation system to utilise such technology and comes complete with photos of 29 major UK cities.

Available in two models, the G280 and G800, the system gives drivers a choice of a birds-eye view or four diagonal views.

The GPS system works by overlaying route information onto real photographs of the location the vehicle is driving through.

I4U.net reports that the benefits the NDrive brings to drivers includes that it shows landmarks surrounding the destination, which are then easy to look out for on the road, while the technology also boasts support for audio, video and photos and a built-in loud speaker.

This follows news that a series of new technological advances could be benefiting couriers in the upcoming years.

A report from communications watchdog Ofcom entitled 'Tomorrow's Wireless World' suggests that new car-to-car communications systems could alert drivers to traffic jams, while wireless in-car technology could be used to make emergency services automatically aware of accidents, enabling faster response times.
