Possible congestion charges in East Midlands could affect couriers
Date: 01 May 2008
Couriers working in the East Midlands could soon find themselves affected by a new congestion charge.
Six councils in the region recently completed a study entitled 'The 6Cs Congestion Management Study' which assessed the best ways to deal with severe traffic congestion in the future, and concluded that congestion charging would be an effective way of doing so, reports Transport Briefing.
The report adds that a congestion charge, which would apply to drivers, including couriers, taking their vehicles into city centres during peak hours paying to do so, would create funds to support other transport measures.
It is likely that congestion charging would be implemented in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham and would bring in some £139 million per annum.
The news provider adds that plans will be discussed further over the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that plans for a congestion charge in Norwich are stalling as transport chiefs have concluded that the scheme would not bring in enough money to finance transport improvements.
You too can make the headlines with bigger and better courier contracts, find out how!
