Scottish haulage operator has licence revoked

Date: 14 April 2008

A haulage operator in Scotland has had his vehicle licence revoked for tachograph-related offences.

The Scottish Deputy Traffic Commissioner, Richard McFarlane, revoked the licence of James Innes, of Aberdeen, RoadTransport.com reports. The licence was for 18 vehicles and 25 trailers.

Back in February 2005 the Deputy TC cut Innes' licence to 11 vehicles and 25 trailers for three weeks, but he said that lessons had not been learnt.

"Tachograph interrupter devices continued to feature" in the practise of the haulage operator, along with "the deliberate creation of false records". Mr Innes had also failed to keep proper records and did not properly warn drivers who had exceeded drivers' hours limits.

Summarising, the Deputy TC said he was satisfied that the drivers had falsified their records using interrupter devices, and that Innes had failed to make sure this did not happen.

In a separate case, haulage firm director Mark Howden of M&M Howden was given 15 months in prison over tachograph offences.
