Haulage thieves' egg-cellent plan is foiled

Date: 08 April 2008

A gang of thieves are on trial for stealing thousands of pounds worth of chocolate Easter eggs and crisps from a haulage lorry depot.

Four men from Merseyside carried out what was described as a 'professional' attack on the James Irlam Logistics depot near the A1 in Grantham, the Grantham Journal reports.

After tying up the nightwatchman and striking him on the legs, the thieves hitched trailers containing snacks and detergent to the back of haulage lorries and drove them away.

However, two police officers were coincidentally in the area and gave chase to the thieves who were in a Vauxhall Vectra, stopping it with a stinger device.

One of the men, Thomas Hodgson, has admitted robbery of Easter eggs and other items worth £41,000 on March 19th last year.

The other men deny robbery.
