Theft reminds haulage drivers to be vigilant

Date: 03 April 2008

Haulage drivers were reminded to be vigilant when stopping at truck parks following a theft near Halifax.

Police in Yorkshire are appealing for witnesses following an incident that saw tyres stolen from a Volvo freight vehicle that was parked in a rest stop at Hartshead Moor service station, located on the M62.

The theft, which took place yesterday morning (April 2nd), saw the criminals remove padlocks and take thousands of pounds worth of tyres from the back container of the vehicle. It happened at some point between midnight and 5am.

Back in February, thousands of pounds worth of diesel were stolen from haulage vehicles in Northumberland.

There is an increased risk of this kind of attack now that fuel prices have reached a record high. Inspector Sue Peart said she thought this series of attacks could have been motivated by the high price of diesel.
