Haulage firm opts for biofuel for fleet
Date: 31 March 2008
A haulage firm from Shropshire has opted to convert all its fleet to run on unmixed biofuel.
Website RoadTransport.com reported that haulage firm H Wragg Transport has upgraded all its 44-tonne vehicles to run on the biofuel in a bid to reduce emissions and costs.
The firm said that the cost of upgrading its haulage vehicles to run on a rapeseed-based biofuel would be offset within a year due to its cheaper costs.
Malcolm Wragg, the haulage firm's owner, explained to the site: "At first I was worried that the trucks might not operate as well, perhaps with a loss of power and so on, but that isn't the case."
Mr Wragg said that another concern was the rising price of rapeseed oil.
However, he added: "If the price really did go through the roof in the long term we could just convert back to diesel, so I don't think there is any real risk."
Recently, a report from Royal and Sun Alliance suggested that the UK haulage industry could reduce its emissions by 12 per cent over the next decade.
