London mayor unveils 20mph road plans
Date: 14 March 2008
Couriers in the capital look set to feel the impact of new proposals unveiled by Ken Livingstone today.
The mayor of London set out plans to introduce 20mph speed limits on all residential roads in the city in a bid to cut the number of deaths on the road.
All 33 London boroughs will be included in the new restrictions which he has decided to roll out following the success of similar schemes which have been trialled in parts of the city.
Speaking to residents and road safety campaigners in Kings Cross today he said: "Our success so far is the result of comprehensive policies to support pedestrians, including giving pedestrians longer to cross at traffic lights even if it means cars have to wait a few seconds longer.
"Research has shown that designating all residential streets as 20mph zones will make a huge difference to cutting further road casualties."
The news will be welcomed by couriers who will benefit from added safety on the roads although it is also likely to impact on their delivery times within the capital.
