Canary wharf couriers go green

Date: 07 March 2008

A new scheme is being introduced in London's Canary Wharf district aimed at helping couriers working in the city to reduce their carbon footprint.

Courier firm CitySprint has launched the initiative which will see half the courier's journey taking place on a bike.

Packages will be carried from Canary Wharf into central London via courier motorbike where they will be switched into the hands of a courier cyclist.

The new CentralExpress programme is expected to prove popular with businesses in the financial hub, which are making increasing efforts to be more environmentally-friendly.

Patrick Gallagher, managing director of CitySprint said: "CentralExpress was developed in direct response to significant demand from within the Canary Wharf area.

"With such a high volume of deliveries emanating from the area we needed to provide a specific and dedicated service solution.

"Also, we wanted to provide an opportunity to assist our clients in managing their carbon emissions objectives without an increase in cost or a decline in service levels."ADNFCR-1069-ID-18499443-ADNFCR
