£2m a year to improve congestion on UK roads
Date: 06 March 2008
The haulage industry could be aided by government investment in areas attempting to ease road congestion, according to the Secretary of State for Transport Ruth Kelly.
Ms Kelly issued a statement about the packages available for UK regions, urging authorities to issue bids for extra funding.
Road haulage companies may be affected by the announcement that the government's pledge to invest £200 million in the area of road congestion has been extended to 2018/19.
"We shall also make available development funding to areas that have submitted business cases to contribute to continued development during the assessment process," added Ms Kelly, in a statement which could include relevant haulage companies.
It was also noted that Greater Manchester and Cambridgeshire were two areas waiting to hear the results of proposals to combat congestion in their regions, which could ease traffic flow for those carrying loads.
The Department for Transport has already made a pledge to aid the freight logistics industry to increase efficiency, which could include the state of road traffic.
