Licence hearing delayed after firm's haulage manager does not show

Date: 18 February 2008

North-western traffic commissioner Beverley Bell has adjourned an inquiry into whether a Liverpool haulage firm allowed other operators to make use of its licence.

Ms Bell postponed the case until she had the opportunity to quiz Greycourt Transport Services' transport manager, Arthur Stoddart, over the incident, website roadtransport.com reported.

When asked why Mr Stoddart was not at the hearing, the haulage firm's representative, Michael Oliver, explained that the employee was no longer transport manager and had declined to appear as a result.

However, Ms Bell reportedly said that she would need to speak to Mr Stoddart and added that she took a dim view of the case.

The case relates to allegations that Greycourt Transport Services allowed other freight companies to use its O-licences.

According to the site, Mr Oliver acknowledged that the licence had been used, but added that the issue centred on whether the haulage firm knew they had been illegally distributed.

The firm added that it was still seeking to add a further six haulage vehicles and 12 trailers to its licence as these were needed for the business to expand.
