FTA campaigns against fuel tax prices
Date: 07 February 2008
A new campaign has been launched by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) aimed at pushing the government to do more about rising fuel duty.
The association says that its main focus is to try to prevent the chancellor Alistair Darling from going ahead with the 2p/litre rise in fuel tax which is due to come into force in April.
It also hopes to convince the government that the current taxation policy is having a negative effect on the UK's haulage industry.
FTA director of policy James Hookham said: "Direct action causes, and did cause, pain and economic loss for the majority of our members.
"As recently as November 6th, our national council resolved that this was not an option for the FTA to pursue.
"We have to provide leadership for those that don't support direct action but are frustrated by the government's tax policies."
April's tax increases will be on top of a 19 per cent hike which has taken place over the last 12 months.
