Mercedes-Benz reveals training courses for haulage drivers
Date: 05 February 2008
Mercedes-Benz has revealed that it will offer Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training to haulage drivers.
While existing logistics will not need the CPC until 2014, website roadtransport.com has reported that the manufacturer of freight and other vehicles has already said it will offer training courses at around 20 of its facilities across the UK.
What's more, Mercedes-Benz revealed that it would use EU-approved and tested, five-to-seven-seat vehicles for the freight driver training courses.
Managing director Ian Jones explained to the site: "There is a need to create adequate training capacity. Mercedes-Benz wants to take an industry lead in this - we've been working on it for over 12 months."
The training scheme will be modular and can be tailored to the requirements of individual haulage companies. However, some units are compulsory and will have to be taken by all freight drivers.
Mr Jones told the site that it was vital the haulage companies did not leave CPC training until the last minute.
