Volkswagen launching longer courier van in UK

Date: 01 February 2008

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is launching a new van that will be of interest to couriers and owner drivers.

The Caddy Maxi is being released in the UK and will be a rival to Ford's Transit Connect, which can also be used by courier drivers.

Compared to the standard Caddy, the Maxi has a longer wheelbase and the overall length is 470mm more, totalling 4,880mm. This allows for bigger loads in the back - the maximum load volume is 1,350 litres.

"Powering the Caddy Maxi Life are a trio of engines, a single 103 PS petrol and two diesels," the automaker said in a statement.

"The 1.9 litre TDI engine develops 104 PS and is linked to a five speed manual gearbox. Topping the range is a 2.0 litre TDI engine producing 140 PS."

The original Caddy has proved popular with drivers in the UK, including courier drivers, because of a good load volume.
