EU red tape burden eased for freight haulage drivers
Date: 24 January 2008
Good news for freight haulage companies operating in Europe: Operators will soon no longer have to carry certain information with them.
The EU Council of Ministers is set to give the green light to a move that will mean freight haulage drivers will no longer have to carry information on tariffs, commercial agreements, price deals and transport conditions, RoadTransport.com reports.
It means that logistics drivers won't need to take information on frontier crossing points and routes travelled with them when delivering loads such as backloads in Europe.
"These requirements stem from a time when intra-EU transport was heavily regulated," said and EU spokesman. "With liberalisation of goods transport, a great part of the required information is no longer needed."
Jacques Barrot, the EU transport commissioner, said that the move was a good way of reducing administrative burdens without causing any road safety worries.
