VOSA set to hike freight haulage testing and licensing fees

Date: 16 January 2008

The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) is considering increasing the fees it charges for testing, inspection and other licensing services, a move that will affect road haulage companies and other freight forwarders.

This week it launched a consultation on price hikes, which a spokesman said will average about five per cent.

VOSA will ask stakeholders for their views on increases to services such as annual tests and Reduced Pollution Certificates for HGVs; ADR and TIR inspections for large freight haulage trucks; operator licensing and the issue of international permits for HGVs; and single vehicle approval and identity checks for light vehicles.

The consultation period will last for eight weeks, and replies must reach VOSA by March 10th.

"The increases are needed to maintain existing levels of service and to pay for investment in improved facilities and customer services - particularly electronic services such as improved test booking facilities," said a spokesman.
