Peugeot and Citroen look to corner market for courier vehicles in 2008

Date: 16 January 2008

Couriers and owner drivers from across the UK and Europe are increasingly opting for Peugeot and Citroen vehicles, new figures have shown.

Data released by PSA Peugeot Citroen showed that it sold 4.9 per cent more light commercial vehicles in Europe during 2007. This means that couriers and other owner drivers purchased a total of 387,000 vehicles from the manufacturer in the 12 months.

Overall, 18.8 per cent of new courier vehicles were produced by the firm over the period.

The company said that the new Citroen Dispatch was proving particularly popular with couriers and owner drivers and had recently been named winner of the 2008 Van of the Year award.

It added that the Peugeot Bipper and Citroen Nemo were set to go on sale in the coming weeks and that these would also be snapped up by couriers and owner drivers.

The firm will also release the new Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner during the first half of 2008.

A statement from the company added: "Following this complete overhaul of the Peugeot and Citroen light commercial vehicle ranges, carried out in record time, the group will have its youngest ever lineup (with an average model age of 2.2 years) and will be poised to further extend its leadership of this market in 2008."
