Demand for used freight haulage vehicles 'will remain robust'
Date: 14 January 2008
Freight haulage professionals, owner operators and other logistics companies will continue to purchase vehicles even if the economy slows down in the coming months, a new report has suggested.
EurotaxGlass's, the publisher of Glass's Guide to Commercial Vehicle Values, suggested that the sellers of logistics and freight haulage vehicles would need to make appropriate changes in order to stay profitable.
George Alexander, chief commercial vehicle editor at the publication, explained: "Regardless of how the wider economy is performing, good profits can be taken if the right stock is offered at an appropriate price.
"Smart buying, therefore, has become essential for dealers."
The report noted that logistics firms and freight haulage companies were likely to continue to demand used heavyweight vehicles in the first half of the year.
However, the survey suggested that hard used chassis would not attract so many freight haulage companies. According to the report, logistics firms are now beginning to realise that these vehicles only tend to appear at auction after they have been worked very hard by previous owners.
As a result, they have little life left in them and prices slip accordingly.
