The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has praised the Welsh Assembly for recognising the vital role that hauliers, logistics workers and other owner operators play in the country's future.
According to the organisation, freight logistics accounts for around six per cent of employment in Wales and adds approximately £2.5 billion to the country's economy.
Stephen Kelly, the FTA's head of policy for the Midlands, Wales and the south-west, said that the recently announced Wales Freight Strategy, when completed, will provide a framework that will let logistics professionals to continue to expand.
He explained: "It is clear to all that we need to ensure that effective transport links are developed in order to provide a vibrant and modern freight network in Wales.
"Such links will make an important contribution to the Welsh economy and will improve the nation's quality of life by allowing the free movement of people and goods."
In particular, Mr Kelly said that improvements to the A470 and A483 roads would help logistic drivers and other hailers operate more effectively.
