Public 'recognise the work of freight haulage professionals'

Date: 07 January 2008

While the majority of people in the UK think that logistics drivers, hauliers and owner operators are the unsung heroes of the community, more needs to be done to improve recruitment in the industry.

That is the conclusion of a new report from Clearstone, which looked at the current state of recruitment in the freight haulage industry.

According to website onrec.com, 54 per cent of the UK public thought that freight haulage drivers, logistics professionals and owner operators were a vital but often unacknowledged lynchpin in the UK economy.

However, the report noted that freight haulage professionals were often portrayed in a negative way by the media in the UK and that this would need to improve if more logistics workers were to be recruited in the coming months.

Recently, Skill for Logistics revealed that more funding would be made available to freight haulage professionals. The organisation pointed out that companies which offered training programmes found it easier to recruit and keep hold of staff.
