French freight haulage drivers fling urine out of the window
Date: 07 January 2008
Some French freight haulage drivers are urinating into bottles and throwing them out of the lorry window, rather than stopping.
Romain Fronteau of the Cofiroute motorway company told the Times: "We are picking up quantities of bottles of urine from the ditches".
As well as this, French hauliers have devised a way of driving 'by ear' so that they are free to watch TV, read or even play video games, a report in Le Figaro newspaper suggests.
Freight haulage drivers can set their logistics vehicles to cruise control and put the truck's right wheels on the edge of the hard shoulder, where there is a ribbed band that makes a noise.
Drivers can then steer by sound, meaning that they can watch movies or read, which has alarmed motorists in the country.
In response, the government is to step up its surveillance of lorry drivers for up to three months.
