Hauliers warned over winter conditions
Date: 02 January 2008
With the UK's weather set to take a turn for the worst this week, UK road haulage drivers are being warned to take extra care when carrying out freight services.
Snow and below-zero temperatures are expected from Wednesday (January 2nd) night, making conditions for haulage drivers and other motorists difficult.
"Drivers are advised to check the forecast and road conditions, to leave extra time for their journeys if travel conditions are poor, and to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe," said a statement from the Highways Agency.
It is thought that UK road haulage services in the south and south-east of England are likely to be worst affected as the region looks set to bear the brunt of snowfall.
Up to five centimetres of snow is expected by the Met Office in areas of the south-east, but it is thought temperatures will improve by the weekend.
Last February, UK road haulage operators and other drivers in the West Midlands encountered travel problems as snowfall closed the runway at Birmingham Airport and brought roads to a standstill.
