Expert warns drivers about changes to tachograph rules
Date: 21 December 2007
New rules mean that freight haulage drivers will need to hold on to more tachograph information come January 1st.
Tachodisc told website roadtransport.com that the new rules mean that freight haulage drivers will have to be able to produce data for the day and the previous 28 calendar days when asked.
According to the firm, this means that freight haulage drivers and other owner operators will have to, come January 2nd, carry that day's chart, "together with any charts and manual records for any day on or after December 5th 2007".
The site also reported that current UK legislation which requires freight haulage drivers and other owner operators to return tachograph charts to employers within 21 days are likely to be changed.
In the future, freight haulage drivers will have to return charts no later than 42 days after they have been produced, but will be able to return them earlier as long as they comply with roadside production requirements.
