Freight haulage drivers to receive back pay

Date: 18 December 2007

Redundant freight haulage drivers in Northern Ireland are due to receive their back pay.

Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) were called in to the road haulage and logistics company Reid Transport, which had been allegedly employing underage workers and was as much as £3.3 million in debt.

Now all ex-employees who have returned the relevant paperwork will receive a cheque before Christmas, said PwC's Garth Calow.

PwC is compiling a report into the freight haulage company and will submit it to the Department of Enterprise by February.

In the meantime, the road haulage and logistics company's fleet of road haulage trucks and logistics vehicles is being auctioned off at Wilson's Auctions in Mallusk today (Tuesday, December 18th).

A spokesman said it was the largest freight haulage truck and trailer auction ever in Ireland. There are 30 tractor units, 50 trailers, 20 'curtainsiders' and ten logistics vans.
