RHA distances itself from possible fuel protests
Date: 13 December 2007
Transaction-2007 (http://www.transaction-2007.com/) has called on haulage drivers, owner operators and other logistic professionals to join in a blockade over the weekend (December 15th) to protest high fuel costs.
The pressure group had thought that it was supported by the Road Haulage Association (RHA).
However a statement on the RHA's website recently claimed: "The Road Haulage Association feels it necessary to make a number of urgent points concerning the Association and the pressure group calling itself Transaction 2007.
"The RHA is not 'in association with' the pressure group, although this assertion is made on its website."
As a result of this statement, the haulage pressure group is now seeking a meeting with the RHA to try and bring the organisation on board, roadtransport.com reports.
Ordinary freight haulage and logistics workers seem divided about the protest. On Yahoo! Answers one haulage driver said that action was "long overdue", while another noted that "fuel protest have very limited effect on the actual price of fuel".
