Objection withdrawn to truck park change
Date: 13 December 2007
Suffolk County Council is withdrawing its objection to a truck park being used as an operating centre by a road haulage company.
K&M Haulage Ireland had applied to operate 12 logistics trucks at the park, which is also used by its sister firm K&M Haulage UK, RoadTransport.com reports.
Suffolk County Council had expressed concerns about planning permission, but such matters are not considered by Traffic Commissioners (TCs).
When the council realised this, it backtracked.
A member of the council "was very sheepish" when he realised his mistake, the owner of the park said.
"The TC doesn't want to hear about planning issues," said Karl Rout. "He really doesn't care one way or another - he wants to know if it is dangerous and if there's available parking."
However, K&M is facing another objection from the Suffolk Coastal District Council, which is worried that if the site is used as a park for freight haulage lorries, it could lead to safety issues because of more traffic.
