More European haulage professionals protest high fuel prices
Date: 12 December 2007
Logistics professionals from across Europe are continuing to protest high fuel prices.
Freight haulage professionals in Belgium blocked major avenues throughout Brussels and Italian logistics drivers blocked motorways and threatened to cut off supplies of fuel and food.
News provider CNN reported that the action across Europe was started when haulage professionals in France won a 15 per cent cut in fuel tax after blocking oil refineries and storage depots.
In the north of the UK, hundreds of petrol pumps are thought to be empty as blockades by freight haulage professionals prompted panic buying.
However, chancellor Gordon Brown ruled out any concessions for haulage companies and other logistics firms.
Earlier this week, a pressure group which represents the interest of haulage companies, owner operators and others involved in the logistics industry in the UK released the date of another planned protest over fuel prices.
TransAction 2007, http://www.transaction-2007.com/, said that the action would take place on December 15th.
