Pressure group releases date for fuel price protest

Date: 11 December 2007

Transaction 2007 has announced the date on which haulage companies and owner operators will protest current fuel prices.

The pressure group is headed up by members of the logistics industry and has campaigned for lower fuel prices for haulage companies since 2000.

A statement on its website (http://www.transaction-2007.com/) revealed that it was planning protests outside a refinery or storage depot on December 15th. However, it did not reveal how many owner operators and other haulage company drivers would be involved in the action.

"Transaction2007 have decided to release the date and time of protest action earlier than scheduled. This is to enable the motorist and public to better prepare themselves for the coming action. This will be a nationwide protest extending to northern and southern Ireland," the group explained.

"This date was decided by members as the best possible to enable those who would normally be working during the week to attend … Transaction again wish to emphasise the importance of legal protesting."

In recent months, fuel prices have exceeded £1 per litre, which has made it increasingly expensive and unprofitable for haulage companies and owner operators to operate in the country.
