Kidnappers who stole load receive lengthy jail terms

Four men who kidnapped a French road haulage truck driver and stole his cognac load have been jailed for a total of 24 years.

On November 29th, 2005, three men smashed into a French road haulage trucker's cab and kidnapped him along with his £85,000 load.

The driver was held prisoner for five hours, and the truck was eventually found without its load, having crashed into a van. The following month, police raided a warehouse and found packaging related to the brandy load.

Dean Swanson of Kirkby, Liverpool received five years, Barry Adams of Maghal, Liverpool got five and a half years and Michael Slinger of Thornton, Liverpool received six. They had admitted charges of theft and appeared at Winchester Crown Court, Commercial Motor reports.

John Moorcroft of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to robbery and was jailed for seven years.
