Road haulage firms must perform LEZ checks
Date: 11 December 2007
Nearly 4,000 low emission certificates (LECs) for logistics vehicles have been issued for the London low emission zone (LEZ), but road haulage companies that haven't taken action yet need to do so soon.
The new rules come into effect for road haulage companies operating diesel logistics vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes on February 4th next year - in less than eight weeks.
Natalie Chapman, regional policy manager for London at the Freight Transport Association (FTA), warned that "availability of test slots will become tighter as the start date looms".
The FTA is calling on road haulage companies to make sure their logistics trucks are compliant, so that they won't be penalised if they are trucking freight including return loads and backloads in and out of the capital.
Road haulage companies need to check the eligible engines list to see if their Euro 1 and 2 logistics vehicles are compliant.
