Couriers aggressively targeted by draconian traffic wardens

Date: 07 December 2007

Couriers and owner drivers are being aggressively targeted by traffic wardens in London, which is hindering their ability to do courier jobs.

In recent years the number of instances of traffic wardens targeting UK couriers - including those with hotshot loads - has increased dramatically, and the couriers and owner drivers themselves are understandably annoyed.

David Reeves, a courier from Camden, told the Evening Standard: "I've had more tickets in the past two years than in my whole 30-year career."

He also pointed out that the traffic wardens often do not give couriers a chance to complete their courier jobs - which can include hotshot loads - effectively.

"It's a rip-off because they give you no time to unload," he added. "It's just another tax."

These draconian measure mean that often it is a minefield trying to conduct courier jobs in the capital.

Traffic wardens are supposed to give courier drivers a few minutes to load or unload their hotshot loads, unless there is a specific loading restriction in that place.
