Report on European truck stop security 'nearly complete'

Date: 05 December 2007

Road Transport has reported that the Secured European Truck Parking Operational Services project is moving along rapidly and should be able to tell freight haulage drivers and government what needs to be done to improve truck stop safety early in the new year.

The project has been attempting to define the requirements needed at secure rest areas for freight haulage drivers and then upgrade and monitor improved sites across the continent.

Consultant Jonathan James told the publication that his group was just a few months away from "a draft specification of what will be adjudged to be essential ingredients for a secure truck park".

Once this is published, the freight haulage industry will have to agree on the recommendations before they can be implemented.

Recently, JD Owen Transport proposed that a new secure parking facility should be built for freight haulage professionals who use the A55 in north Wales.
