Freight haulage firm fined for overloading
Date: 13 November 2007
The court heard that one of the foreign freight haulage drivers did not speak English well enough to understand his instructions. As a result, his vehicle exceeded load limits and this resulted in a £2,000 fine for the company.
According to the site, the prosecution at the trial revealed that the A&A vehicle had a load which was 1,170kg over legal limits when it was stopped as part of a routine inspection.
Ali Laksari, managing director of the logistics company, is reported to have added that he did not believe that the freight haulage driver had overloaded his vehicle on purpose.
"The Polish driver's English was not good and there was not much knowledge," he explained.
"We've been given some sound advice from a business expert, vehicles are being changed and a new man is now running our delivery fleet."
*** A previous version of this story written by Adfero for Haulage Exchange gave the impression that A&A Wholesale had been forced to employed Polish drivers to avoid bankruptcy. We accept that this was misleading and are happy to make this correction. Adfero apologises for this error and for any confusion or upset it may have caused. ***
