The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has launched a new initiative to tackle road freight crime.
Police forces around the country will now be able to use "highly visible" trailers carrying a crime prevention message, which they can park up in roadside lay-bys, telling haulage drivers that the location is not safe and that they should go elsewhere.
The trailers have the following message: "Truckers beware, this is a load theft hot spot."
This plan is being implemented by ACPO's Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (AVCIS), and its TruckPol division. Truck and freight haulage crime in the UK amounted to more than £100 million last year, so it is a big concern for logistics companies.
Superintendent John Wake of AVCIS said: "There are a number of recognised safe parking locations that drivers should use.
"The trailer should be of particular benefit to drivers who are not local to an area and who may not know of the dangers. By parking the trailer in strategic locations around the UK a clear and highly visible message can be given out."
