Skills for Logistics is raising awareness among freight haulage drivers regarding changes that have been made to the Driver Certification of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) Guide to Periodic Training.

The changes have been made as a result of feedback from training providers and employers who have gone through the approvals process for the delivery of the Driver CPC.

The main change is that trainer information will be submitted with the application of the course they are going to deliver, instead of when the centre applies for approval.

Other changes include clarification of the definition of a course and the requirements for trainers, and the Annexes are now easier to understand.

"The Driver CPC Guide to Periodic Training is an important way to communicate the legislative changes that will impact the logistics sector in terms of driver training," said Rachel Taylor, programmes and quality services manager at Skills for Logistics.

"Therefore we welcome the updates to this guide based on feedback from those that are key in the delivery of this training."

The CPC, which is already required by freight operators, is being extended to drivers.
