Two road haulage operators have been hit by O-licence suspensions in the last week.

Skip operator Alan Greathurst, who runs West Midlands-based Mr Skip, had his five-vehicle licence revoked by the local transport commissioner.

According to the industry news provider roadtransport.com, Mr Greathurst had failed to satisfy inspectors that he had carried out necessary improvements to his vehicles.

It had also become unclear exactly where he was operating from after he bought another skip hire firm and set about merging it with Mr Skip.

Mr Greathurst failed to appear at a public inquiry.

Roadtransport.com also reports that a pallet manufacturer in Lancashire has lost his O-licence for two days.

The north-western deputy transport commissioner took the decision after Andrew Weir, who trades as Carr Mill Pallets, was unable to provide maintenance records for his sole vehicle.

All freight companies must have an O-licence (operator licence) to attest their vehicle's road worthiness.

The revoking of a licence can have a significant commercial impact on freight companies, especially smaller operators.
