The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has issued guidelines for courier companies and freight haulage firms looking to book their vehicles in for low emissions tests.

The London low emission zone (LEZ) will be phased in from next year, and there has been some confusion as to the details of the necessary VOSA tests.

Before operators can apply for a Low Emissions or Reduced Pollution Test, they must make sure their vehicles are referenced on the Low Emissions Certificate (LEC) Eligible Engine list, or on the LEC and RPC (Reduced Pollution Certificate) Approved Devices list.

VOSA will issue LECs or RPCs for vehicles that have unmodified Euro 1 or 2 engines that may meet the necessary LEZ emissions standards and are included in the LEC eligible engines list, as well as those vehicles that have been modified to allow them to meet the requirements.

Both a list of eligible engines and approved modification devices can be found on the Transport for London website.

VOSA tests can be booked either at local VOSA test stations or on 0870 6060440.
