Operator licences, or O-licences, are essential for anyone running a haulage business, but the practices required to qualify for them are constantly updated.
As a result, the Freight Transport Association is offering hauliers the chance to attend a series of special seminars covering the latest developments and requirements.
The sessions will update and advise owners and managers at freight companies about the Operator Compliance Risk Score and related enforcement targeting, fixed penalties, the presentation of records at the roadside.
They will also cover the uses of Traffic Commissioner Practice Directions in compliance, as well as the disc abolition and removal of 28-day grace period.
As the FTA points out, failing to comply driver management and other operating rules can "can restrict, or even jeopardise, the continuity of the licence and thus the ability to continue to run vehicles".
Should new European Commission proposals be approved, hauliers could be faced with more stringent standards and tougher training requirements, RoadTransport.com reports.
Tighter rules have been suggested in order to make it harder for "rogue operators" to enter the industry.
