Driver attacked in pants theft

Date: 31 August 2007

Robbers managed to steal thousands of pairs of underpants from the back of a lorry after attacking the HGV's driver.

The thieves sprayed some sort of substance, exactly what is not known, into the Polish driver's face causing him to fall unconscious on a road in Rugby.

According to Warwickshire Police, when he awoke his curtain-sided trailer had been slashed and the 25,000 pairs of pants taken.

Figures reported by the Road Haulage Association highlight the severity of the problem of criminal acts against hauliers on the UK roads.

According to the Truckpol Quarterly Report, some £26 million was lost through the theft of goods and vehicles between January and March 2006.

The report also claimed that 38 hijacking incidents took place during the period, compared to seven during the same quarter of 2004.ADNFCR-1069-ID-18264640-ADNFCR
