Managers await Certificate of Professional Competence
Date: 30 August 2007
From 2009, all heavy goods vehicle licence-holders will need to complete an additional 35 hours of training over a period of five years.
The extra tuition will become mandatory to gain the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), which focuses on energy conservation, legal compliance, road traffic care and driving skills, among other areas.
Managers will receive support from the Freight Transport Association (FTA), which today revealed details of upcoming seminars on the new driver demands.
The Transport Manager seminars will offer information about the courses most likely to provide the greatest benefits. Firms will also receive details on the various dos and don'ts as well as important exemptions.
The FTA also plans to outline when responsibilities lie with the driver and when the employer is required to act. Further information will be offered on enforcement and potential penalties.
Interested haulage companies can attend seminars between September and December this year and the FTA will run courses across the country.
A qualification issued on behalf of all EU transport departments, the CPC was conceived to improve standards in the logistics and transport industry throughout Europe.
