VOSA accepting advance LEZ test bookings
Date: 20 August 2007
The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) is to begin accepting advance bookings for low emissions certificate (LEC) tests from today (August 20th).
Actual tests will begin on September 3rd at heavy goods vehicle test stations (HGVTS), Transport News Network reports.
The inspections relate to the London low emission zone (LEZ), and will help logistics and freight haulage companies determine whether their trucks are liable to pay the daily fee in order to enter the capital.
From February next year, HGVs weighing more than 12 tonnes that do not meet the Euro III standard for particulate matter will have to pay, and the scheme will be subsequently extended.
A low emissions test with VOSA costs £28, but it can be carried out at the same time as a yearly vehicle test at the lower price of £17. Appointments can be booked through the VOSA Enquiry Unit on 0870 6060440.
The LEZ zone is being introduced in a bid to cut air pollution in London, and will have a significant impact on courier companies and freight haulage firms when it begins.
