Freight association BIFA appoints new director general to help haulage firms

Date: 27 July 2007

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) has appointed a new director general to take over from Colin Beaumont.

Peter Quantrill has been named as the man to take the helm of the group that represents and supports international freight services, including haulage firms. He will help haulage firms and freight forwarders by representing the industry and helping with issues such as training.

Quantrill, who is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, has previously worked for Mercury Airfreight International, and Atlasair, the freight subsidiary of the United Parcel Service (UPS). While there he was responsible for all UPS activity in the UK in 1990.

He also worked for Emery and eventually became a board member of parent company Menlo Worldwide.

BIFA's national chairman, Philip Stephenson, said: "We are delighted that Peter Quantrill has joined us and we are all looking forward to working with him. He has an excellent record of achievement and we are excited at the prospect of adding these skills to the BIFA team.

"His challenge will be to continue to develop BIFA's four key objectives - representation and lobbying; the provision of advice and information; promotion and training - objectives to which our outgoing director general has made a major contribution."

In May this year BIFA appointed a new president, the Rt Hon the Lord Fowler. Stephenson was appointed to the post of national chairman at the same time.
