Skills for Logistics names new Northern Ireland national manager

Date: 23 July 2007

Skills for Logistics, which is the sector skills council for the freight logistics industry, has appointed a new national manager for Northern Ireland.

Geraldine Quinn, formerly the policy advisor to the Northern Ireland Federation of Small Businesses, will take up the role and use her experience "to raise the profile of the logistics industry and provide it with a voice at government level".

She will also work to ensure that support and advice is available to logistics firms of all sizes, a role that Skill for Logistics' chief executive Ian Hetherington believes is a crucial one.

"Logistics is a vital industry in Northern Ireland, providing an important part of the economy's infrastructure," he said. "Those working in the industry are skilled professionals, providing an essential service."

He continued: "Geraldine's predecessor has done a fantastic job raising our profile and establishing relationships with logistics employers and we can now take this to the next level."

Skills for Logistics is a registered charity and works to tackle the skills needs of the logistics sector. It is backed by organisations such as the British International Freight Association and the Road Haulage Association.
